Horse race betting turnover increased in Hong Kong during the past season

The turnover of the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) for the season 2022/2023 reached 141.10 billion Hong Kong dollars (18.08 billion US dollars). This information is reported in the report of the monopoly gambling operator of the special administrative region of the People's Republic of China.
Compared to the previous season, the turnover of bets on horse racing increased by 0.5%.
During the past season, the operator organized 835 races in Hong Kong. In addition, the HKJC broadcasted 299 races that took place outside of China.
Out of the total turnover, 129.3 billion Hong Kong dollars were from bets on horse racing in Hong Kong, which is 0.5% lower than the previous season.
HKJC also noted an increase in attendance at racecourses due to the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions. The number of visitors to Sha Tin racecourse increased by 210.3% to 826,000, and Happy Valley racecourse saw a 234.9% increase to 395,000 visitors.
