Sports betting and online gambling bill approved by Brazil’s chamber of deputies

The Brazilian Chamber of Deputies last week gave final approval to the bill on sports betting and online gambling. The document reentered the lower house of parliament after a number of amendments by the Senate.
The bill has gone to the office of the country's President Lula da Silva for final approval.
As previously reported, the bill allows only companies registered under Brazilian law in the country to offer gambling. A three-year operator's licence will be available for 30 million Brazilian reais. Operators will pay a tax of 12 per cent. Of the total tax collected, 6.63% will be allocated to sports development, 5% to the tourism industry and 2% to social security,
Only licensed operators will be able to advertise sports betting and online gambling. At the same time, they will be prohibited from offering bonuses to customers.
