Sports betting ads are banned in Ecuador. This happened after the approval of the rules for the implementation of the Organic Communications Law by President Guillermo Lasso. As follows from the document, the ban includes all types of betting systems or sports predictions.

As expected, in the near future the Law will be challenged in the courts by bookmaker operators.

According to the Internal Revenue Service (SRI), there are currently 33 betting companies operating in Ecuador, six of which are officially registered in the country. In 2022, the combined income of local betting companies amounted to USD 37.4 million.

In May 2023, a draft tax reform was submitted to the National Assembly of Ecuador, according to which the tax on sports betting should be increased.
