Powerball jackpot reaches $620 million

The jackpot of the American Powerball lottery has reached $620 million. According to the lottery organisers, this happened after the last Wednesday's drawing did not reveal the owner of the main prize.

The next drawing will be held on Saturday night. According to the rules of the lottery, the winner will be able to choose to receive the prize in full in equal instalments over 29 years or a lump sum payment, which in this case will amount to $310.8 million.

Recall that the odds of winning the Powerball lottery jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million. Powerball tickets cost $2 and are sold in 45 US states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.

The largest lottery win in 2023 was $1.73 billion, which came from a lottery ticket purchased in California. The jackpot was the second largest in the history of lotteries. The world record for the largest lottery win was set on 8 November 2022. The Powerball lottery ticket sold in the city of Altadena, California, won $2.04 billion.
