The size of the illegal gambling market in Italy reaches 25 billion euros. This is reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport,
As noted in the report, 18.5 billion euros of this amount refers to unlicensed gambling sites. The total amount of funds that were not received by the country's budget for the past year amounted to 1 billion euros.
The authorities are trying to fight illegal gambling by blocking access to the sites. In particular, since the beginning of 2023, the Italian Agency for Customs and Monopolies (ADM) closed access to 9,828 illegal sites that accepted bets from players from Italy. At the same time, the number of such sites increased by 400 compared to the same period last year.
The European Gambling and Betting Association (EGBA), commenting on the published information, noted that the black market favors the country's ban on gambling advertising. In this regard, the organization called on the Italian authorities to review the gambling legislation.
