The Alabama House of Representatives last Thursday passed a package of bills aimed at legalizing retail and online sports betting, as well as the state lottery and casino.
According to the content of the documents, the decision to legalize gambling will have to be made by the state's voters in a referendum this November. If the vote is positive, the Gambling Commission will become the regulator of gambling.
The authors of the bill expect that gambling will bring the state up to 1 billion dollars a year.
The documents have been sent to the Alabama Senate for a vote. If approved by lawmakers, they will be submitted for signature to Governor Kay Ivey, who is a supporter of the legalization of gambling.
