Changes to the law on slot machines are planned to be introduced in Colombia. The relevant proposal was made by the gaming regulator Coljuegos.
The reform will be aimed at combating the spread of illegal slot machines. According to Coljuegos estimation, there are currently about 50 thousand slot machines in Colombia, installed without authorisation. The illegal market is estimated at 945 billion Colombian pesos. ($240 million). Illegal slot machines account for about a third of the total electronic gaming machine market in Colombia
According to the draft law, all establishments hosting slot machines will have to undergo mandatory certification. There will also be a limit of 80 slot machines per gaming hall. The total number of slot machines that will be allowed to be installed will depend on the size of the gaming hall, as well as the size of the local population.
